RT Day 4

April 10, 2011 by Joshua Corin Leave a Comment

And now the Convention Fatigue sets in. It always does around Day 4. The mornings become more difficult to survive with open eyes, the afternoons become filled with the desire for alone-time, and the evenings, that final hurrah, that final party, always has a current of auld lang syne to it which ends the event on a note more bittersweet than joyous.

This was a good convention for me from a social standpoint. I made some new friends, got to spend quality time with some old friends, and managed to acquaint a bunch of readers with my books. However, the author signing, where all 300+ of us were crammed into a ballroom and lined alphabetically for 4 hours while fans weaved their way among the maze…this I could have done without. I did get to meet one of my dearest fans, though, and that for me was one of the highlights of the whole trip.

Dinner tonight was in North Hollywood with Kristy. We ate at a delightfully dingy diner and then hopped to Aroma for dessert. Aroma is half-bakery and half-bookstore and both halves are so very tasteful. I got a cranberry oatmeal cookie that was about as large as my left hand and somehow managed to devour the whole thing.

I spent the Harlequin Dance Party outside the party chatting with a group of great writers – and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. Writing can be such a lonesome road, and it always refreshes my soul to be around people who can relate. But you know what I mean. We all have these people in our lives – or at least I hope we do. To exist without a kindred spirit…I can hardly imagine a lonelier life.
