BEA Day Zero

May 24, 2011 by Joshua Corin Leave a Comment

Hello from New York City, where the day could not have been more beautiful…once we arrived.

Yes, oh yes, there were delays. There were delays in boarding the aircraft – which I’ve dealt with before and which are reasonable – but then there was the infamous stuck-on-an-airplane-on-the-runway-for-an-hour delay. Now, this would have been OK too, more or less, had the flight crew not forbidden our use of electronic devices while we waited.

Now I understand (sort of) why cell phones are not allowed during takeoff and landing. But if a person could potentially down their flight just by reading an issue of Cosmopolitan on their Kindle…this strikes me as disingenuous. If this were true, all a terrorist would have to do to wreck havoc on a US flight would be to listen to his favorite album on his iPod during takeoff or landing.

I find the whole thing a little hard to believe.

Still, Mom and I arrived safe and sound at the Sheraton Towers in midtown Manhattan. I met up with my friend Jordan for Comic Book Club and then dinner at Chat & Chew…where I ate simply the Best Turkey Burger ever to enter my mouth. I think it may have been fried in bacon fat.
